OUR HISTORY

N.V. Heathorn was founded by Mr. Norman V. Heathorn in 1932 as a roofing-contracting firm when he could find no employment during the Great Depression. In 1947, he opened our sheet metal shop to fabricate and install Architectural Sheet Metal work and Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. In subsequent years, we added our Plumbing and Piping Department.

In 1966 Norman T.R. Heathorn (Tom), a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), succeeded his father as President of the company. Tom managed the business until 1996 when his son Edward W. Heathorn (Ted), a graduate of Construction Engineering and Management from Purdue University became President of the company. Both Tom and Ted Heathorn expanded the businesses operations venturing into new markets and new specialties. The company became nationally recognized for its growing operations in specialty markets.

In 1999 Dave Wenner joined the firm to lead our mechanical construction operations. Dave began his carrier a Union Sheet Metal worker.  His extensive field and management experience made him a valued addition to the company.   Dave quickly proved to possess the same integrity that the company holds as its highest priority and brought with him much field experience, technical knowledge, and personnel management skills.

Ted's brother Dave Heathorn left his military career after 12 years as a Navy Pilot to join the firm in 2002 to manage the company's administrative and financial operations. Dave obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1990 and in 1999 earned a Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering (Avionics) from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California. Dave manages the financial and administrative, and IT operations essential to achieving our operational objectives.

Steve Hirst joined NV Heathorn in 2003 after graduating from California State University-Chico with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Construction Management. Steve quickly became a trusted and relied upon member of our team. In 2013 Steve was promoted to Vice President in charge of Business Development and Operations. Steve has worked diligently to create deep personal relationships with both existing and new customers which has developed a true sense of loyalty with our clients.

In 2005 Dave Wenner, Dave Heathorn and Ted Heathorn became the sole proprietors of N.V Heathorn Co. and in 2021 Steve Hirst was added to the ownership team.

Our combined experience and technical knowledge is the cornerstone of our continued success. Today, we continue to operate on the same ideals the original company was founded upon in 1932. Our mission is to provide a quality installation at a competitive price, while providing a service to our customers and a quality of life for our employees.
